A simply color scheme pulls this garden together
Frequent GPOD contributor Cherry Ong latterly got the chance to visit Heronswood , a garden in Kingston , Washington , that she tell has been on her bucketful list to shoot the breeze for a long time .
If you are n’t intimate with Heronswood , it started in 1987 as the garden and nursery of famous plant IE Dan Hinkley . In the 1990s , it was perhaps the premier rare plants greenhouse in the nation . That all changed in 2000 when the baby’s room was purchased by a enceinte company . The raw possessor shutter it , ostensibly for good , in 2006 . gardener mourn , but then , in 2012 , the Heronswood was purchased by the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe . With an USA of volunteer and stave , the tribe has been restoring and revitalize the garden after years of nonperformance . It is exciting to see such a mythical nursery ascending from the ashes . If you have n’t had the chance to visit , Cherry has taken some awesome photos , so you’re able to get a virtual sojourn justly here on the GPOD .
Today we ’re taking you to the blue and yellow garden at Heronswood . Keep an eye out for Post from other parts of the garden on the GPOD in coming week .

This garden demonstrates the mightiness of using two simple technique in designing a garden : ( 1 ) limiting your color choices , and ( 2 ) repeating the same plants throughout the garden . By doing so , the garden instantly feels cohesive , planned , and harmonious .
Theliliesare plainly the genius here . marvelous , richly colored , and spectacular , they are show - conversation stopper . But there are luck of other thing going on to maintain interest once the lily have fade .

bring blue to the party , Nile lily ( Agapanthus , Zones 7–10 ) is a staple in gardens in soft winter climates along the West Coast . They do n’t often do as well in other parts of the country , but if they are well-chosen in your garden , they are truly beautiful .
Goldenrod ( Solidagospecies ) does n’t always get the regard it deserve . Sure , some species are boney , but there are many species that are well - behave and bring great gold displays to the late summer / dusk garden .
A blue repeated geranium ( possiblyGeranium‘Rozanne ’ , Zones 5–8 ) and yellow - variegated Japanese forest grass ( Hakonechloamacra , Zones 5–9 ) . These are both wide adapted plant that will prosper in shade .

Yellow creeping Jenny ( Lysimachianummularia‘Aurea ’ , Zones 3–9 ) and Lycopus virginicus ( Ajugareptans , Zones 3–10 ) . The bugleweed will have grim peak in the natural spring .
One last smell at this magical niche of the garden .
