Midsummer glory in Pennsylvania
Today we ’re taking a return trip to Carla ’s garden in Malvern , Pennsylvania . She ’s shared her garden with us before ( Midspring in Carla ’s GardenandCarla ’s Woodland Garden ) , and today we ’re enjoy the garden as it recruit midsummer , when , as Carla puts it , “ of a sudden it is alldayliliesandhydrangeas ! ”
Carla confessed to me that like so many of us , she ’s not respectable about remembering plant name calling , so she does n’t know the variety of all the plants fancy here today . This hydrangea , however , with these unusual green - and - pinkish flowers , is the variety ‘ Pistachio ’ ( Hydrangeamacrophylla‘Howack ’ , zone 6–9 ) .
Pink and blue bigleaf hydrangea arise together . Flower color inhydrangeasis ascertain by a combining of the soil and the genetics of the individual plant . Acidic soil tend to farm bluer flowers , while alkaline ace produce pinker flowers . But each plant tend to a particular colouration as well , so you may have pinkish and blue peak in the garden with the right diversity option .

An exquisite daylily ( Hemerocallishybrid , Zones 4–9 ) , with blossom that are an unusual combination of lavender and peach .
hydrangea can be of a mophead form , with boastful mass of flower , or of the more finespun lacecap soma ( pictured ) , with a ringing of splashy heyday around a saucer of modest ones . Both are beautiful !
The picotee approach pattern on this hydrangea stands out all the dear for being displayed in the simple , lacecap var. .

A lilac-colored lacecap hydrangea blossom beautifully with a rich , red day lily .
Soft pink daylilies bloom up through asmooth hydrangea(Hydrangeaarborescens , Zones 3–8 ) .
It is n’t just hydrangea and dayliles . In ashady billet , a graceful fuchsia ( annual ) in a container mingles withfernsin the shade gardens .

A marvelous form of foxglove ( Digitalispurpurea , Zones 4–9 ) with a spectacular , glowering pattern on the flower throat .
