Beautiful wild scenes from Tennessee
Jeff Calton sent in these beautiful images of a groundless John Rock garden on one of his guest ’s properties . It is made up of huge limestone outcropping cover up with a rich green carpet of aboriginal plant life . A great reminder that the ultimate teacher of garden design is Mother Nature … after all , she ’s been at this a mess longer than any of us .
Though most of us do n’t have jumbo limestone boulders in the garden , this lifelike view could be well recreated in a suspicious garden region by adding a few stone , understated perennial , and rent mosses establish themselves .
These beautiful mosses creep over dramatic rocks are drought tolerant , pest free , cervid proof , evergreen , refined , elegant and perfect . A good admonisher that a garden does n’t always have to be about striking fit of color . A little moss is sometimes all you need .

Three foliage stonecrop ( Sedum ternatum , Zone 4 – 8) is one of the swell , under - appreciated sedum . Native to a unspecific stretchiness of the Eastern US , it is one of the few sedums that in reality thrive in tincture . If you love the look of succulent foliage but do n’t have much Dominicus , or have a unmanageable dry tint area , this is the plant for you !
Pleopeltis polypodioides(Zone 6 – 9 ) has the common name of Resurrection of Christ fern because if it gets too teetotal , the fronds turn browned and curl up on themselves . Then , when rain bring back , they spread out flop back up and hold on as before . That ’s my variety of plant ! It is found most often in the state of nature where it creeps over tilt as in the photo above , or , sometimes , it grows right up onto the tree trunk of Tree .
Another view of the Christ’s Resurrection fern among the mosses .

One terminal dramatic shot look up at a tree that has wield to get hold a root hold and thrive on the limestone bowlder .
