My neighbor grew a large spot of oat in his backyard for the cervid this winter . Now that hunting season is over and he ’s ready to plant a garden , he told us we were welcome to cut it for hay .

So we did .

I catch my scythe at an passe entrepot some class ago . Now that we ’re back in the state where we have courteous spirit level ground , it ’s back in action . I ’m going to order a new European modeling fromScytheSupply.comlater today , but for now this former scythe is doing just fine , so long as I keep it sharp . I do n’t have a whetstone for it so I just light apply a single file .

The scythe is a small short for me and my cutting is n’t large , but it ’s good enough for now .

Rains were coming , so we thin out and dried about half the bandage over the last duad of days .

It ’s near to sheer hay in the early break of day while it ’s still damp with dew , as the radical trend better . Once you ’ve cut it , rake it out in a thin bed to dry out . If the twenty-four hour period is red-hot and sunny , you could crease it again in a few hours , turning everything over to the sun .

Here ’s the presentation that avail me get a visual for the operation :

We get two truck bed full of hay and there ’s still that more than that impart standing in the field .

The next two days are suppose to be sunny , so I ’m headed back to cut some more this morning . Some of this hay will get used in the garden and some of it will be used for our animals .

The cows are beautiful and make tons of manure . last we ’ll have a consistent herbicide - detached seed of manure for the garden !

They were feed onGrazon - sprayed hayuntil we got them , so once that ’s out of their system we ’ll start harvesting all the rap for the compost pile and garden .

We are working on getting them used to us , taking them treats every meter we chatter their paddock . The girls are a little flighty and not sure what to do with us yet , but they do n’t run aside . We ’re keeping them close and letting them acclimate for now . Both are due to calve in a calendar month or two , which will be very interesting .
