A tropical paradise
My name is Kimberly Pruett , and I live in Cape Coral , Florida . horticulture is my passion . My family moved into our home about three years ago , and the yard had nice trees but was otherwise just grass and a chainlink fence . My husband and I have worked very hard and spend endless hour transform it into a reposeful and scent - occupy garden . It is always a work in advance . We have lots of comestible , flowering plants , over 30 varieties ofPlumeriaand over 500 mixed bag of bromeliads . Have a beautiful day !

At first glance , this could be a garden anywhere in the country — then you look closer and see that many of the plants grow here are ones that northerly gardeners are used to seeing only ashouseplants !

A brilliant green pollinating fly comes in to visit a passionflower ( Passiflorasp . ) flush .
Beautiful bromeliads ! The bromeliad family line is huge , including many species that endure as epiphytes in the wild — develop on the branches of tree intropicalrainforests . They make great landscape painting industrial plant in fond climates and great houseplant where temperatures douse below freezing in the winter .
A hybridorchidgrows on a tree . Many of the tropic orchids so democratic as houseplant in cold climates are epiphyte in the wild as well .

Here is a beautifulCurcumaflower . The rootstalk of one species ofCurcumaare the source of the spiciness turmeric , but they also have unbelievable flowers . The showy pink bracts make a long - lasting display , while the genuine flowers — which are golden yellow — open sequentially up the spike .
I believe this arresting bromeliad is a species or intercrossed ofNeoregelia . The cupped leaves collect and concord water , a vital adaptation for a coinage that evolved while perched on the branch of trees .
Apot of tulipsin bloom . tulip require a inhuman geological period for bloom . In Northern gardens , that is accomplished by planting them in the fall . In Florida , the medulla have to be chill in a cooler to give them an artificial winter so they ’ll bloom outside .
