When to Harvest Garlic Scapes
Garlic scapes have a short harvest window , for our zone 5 it take place around mid to previous June . They ’ll begin to seem and be ready within a workweek to 10 day .
They come out of the meat of the garlic plant and mature flat and will be have a yellow tip .
Within a few days they will curl in a round fashion and grow long enough to glean . you could see the progress of the growth in the image below starting on the top leave .

How to Harvest Garlic Scapes
I employ a knife and cut just at the foundation of the spiral .
calculate on the motley they will be quick at different fourth dimension . They keep quite well and I often just store ours on the dinning room table for about a week , but the garlic juice are wonderful fresh as you ’ll notice when you cut them . I chink our Allium sativum every couple of twenty-four hour period for scape that are ready and harvest accordingly . They are fun to run on your branch due to the curl ( & I often forget a harvest basket ! ) .
They block quite well as a pesto but I still prefer to eat them refreshed & often grilled or sautéed with other veg .
