Blooms from a master gardener’s garden
Barbara Nuffer mail in today ’s exposure . She gardens in Rensselaer County in upstate New York , and her gardens include extensive perennial and vegetable plantings .
Barbara grew thesehollyhocks(Alcearosea , Zones 2–10 ) from seed last spring . They are the multifariousness ‘ Indian Spring ’ , which is a mixture of various shades of garden pink . Careful staking has helped them stand magniloquent through terrible storms .
Clematisare best known for the large - flower hybrid , but there is a great deal of diversity in the genus , like this unbelievable productive purpleClematis‘Rooguchi ’ ( Zones 4–8 ) which produces nod , bell - shaped prime .

Another unusual clematis , with graceful , almost tulip - similar flowers .
A small bellflower ( possiblyCampanulacarpatica , Zones 4–9 , or a related to species or hybrid ) with down flower appear all the better for growing through a backcloth of a purple - leaved barberry ( Berberisjaponica , Zones 4–8 ) .
A double - bloom form offeverfew(Tanacetumparthenium , geographical zone 5–8 ) . This flora sustain its name from its traditional use as a medicative herb , but this form is all about the beauty of the flowers .

The rusty foxglove ( Digitalisferruginea , Zones 4–8 ) has small flowers than more commonly grown coinage of foxgloves , but it raise them in nifty act , and each one is an in an elaborate way patterned work of art .
A shadowiness garden planting , with big masses ofJapanese paint fern(Athyriumniponicumvar.pictum , Zones 3–8 ) in the front , light up up the blank space with elegant facile fronds .
The flower spikes ofbear ’s breeches(Acanthusmollis , Zones 6–10 ) , which is a safe perennial grown for both the dramatic flowers as well as the large , attractive leaf .
