Overwintering tender plants for dramatic effect
Alice Fleurkens in Sweaburg , Ontario , has shared her garden with us several times on the GPOD , but today she send in some photo of a friend ’s garden , which is just gorgeous .
This is my protagonist Anna ’s garden . I had not been there for quite a while , and boy was I blow away by her footling piece of paradise . Her plants have grown to sizes I had never seen before . Anna and her married man , John , really do not have anylawn ; their whole backyard is flower andvegetables .
wait at all the planters Anna makes . She told me they were nicer earlier in the summertime , but I think they are still beautiful . The bright reddened flowers are from begonias(Begoniahybrid , Zones 9–11 or as an annual ) and canna(Cannahybrid , Zones 8–11 or as a tender bulb ) .

Thisbegoniais covered with blossom .
Look at these mammoth agaves(Agaveamericana , Zones 8–10 ) . Anna told me she has had them for about eight years .
In the wintertime , the American aloe go in the garage . you’re able to see they are position on wheels to make them well-off to move . And can you believe the size of thedahlias(Dahlia variabilis , Zones 8–11 or as a tender incandescent lamp ) in the backcloth ? Just totally amazing . I think they are in all likelihood 5 to 6 feet tall .

A smaller agave in aceramic potand potted Angel Falls ’s trumpets(Brugmansiahybrid , Zones 8–11 ) add up flare to this planting .
This is the side of Anna and John ’s garden . There are all kinds of unlike smallsedumsbetween the rock . Two weeping copper beeches(Fagussylvatica , Zones 4–7 ) have dramatic foliage and fit well in the narrow space .
This orange efflorescence , Mexican sunflower(Tithoniarotundifolia , one-year ) , was supposed to be 6 foot tall but grew to about 9 feet .

Anna John have make many rock walls around their prop .
A beautiful hydrangea ( Hydrangeapaniculata , Zones 3–8 )
This tree diagram with the orange flush is just gorgeous . It is a lantana ( Lantanacamara , Zones 8–11 ) . Lantanas are ordinarily grown as annuals in cold - wintertime climates but can develop into large bush orsmall treesif overwintered . From the wheels on the weapons platform the container is sitting on , it looks like this goes into the service department for the inhuman month of the year like the agaves .

What a view of the Brobdingnagian motley agave with ivy ( Hederahelix , Zones 4–9 ) cascading down the hold back rampart behind .
